The Bernal Cut Path is a community-driven landscape and environmental activation.
The volunteer-based project aims to brighten the pedestrian path with illumination and signage that tells the story of the neighborhood and its natural geography, flora and fauna. This community effort beautifies a busy transit corridor, improves walkability of the pathway heavily used by pedestrians, restore habitat for birds and bees, mitigate sound and air pollution from the automobile and trolley traffic, and build community through robust volunteer outreach and engagement.
Most importantly, the Bernal Cut Beautification Project elevates decades of neighborhood community efforts by creating a formal identity and profile; and grows an engaged network of neighbors in the Bernal Glen community with a shared vision for long-term environmental, health and social benefits of this project, and illustrate how the power of place can strengthen community bonds.
